wedNEWSday: Avon Netball Coaches – The next generation

WedNEWSday this week highlights a great opportunity within Avon where the next generation of netball coaches are being developed and supported. Each wedNEWSday we will bring you a good news story across the region so check our website and social media each week so you don’t miss out!

Avon Netball Coaches – The next generation

Nine young netballers have recently been accepted onto The West of England Sport Trust’s (Wesport) Young Coach Recognition Programme.

The programme is aimed at young coaches (aged 14-18) who are keen to embark on the first steps of their coaching journey. The programme will introduce the young coaches to a variety of skill sets and will support them to start (or continue) to support the delivery of their chosen sport, in their club environment or elsewhere.

The young netball coaches, who had to apply to be a part of this programme, will be invited to attend a free training day during February half term where they will attend workshops/ training that will cover 1st Steps into coaching, Delivering Engaging Sessions and Fundamentals of Movement.  And if that wasn’t enough, those who are eligible will also be able to access a coach bursary to enable them to complete their UKCC Level 1 qualification.

Emily Harrison, Avon and Wiltshire Netball Development Officer, said,

“What an incredible opportunity for the next generation of netball coaches in Avon to access. It’s great to see these young coaches coming forward and taking up this opportunity and to be able to start their coaching journey with such a great base of knowledge will be invaluable to them. I know many of them are already supporting sessions at their own clubs and I look forward to supporting them as their progress towards their qualifications and towards leading club and other netball sessions in the future!”

Congratulations and good luck to the following young coaches who will be a part of the upcoming programme:

Sarah Appleby, Mia Regan, Michaella Moreton, Emily Gunn, Chloe Carchrie, Millie Stanford, Abbey Cox, Jasmine Mainstone & Sophie Hay.
