Tiger Saints take court for the first time

Just over a month and a half after launching, Tiger Saints (a brand new junior club in Avon) have taken to court in their first ever league fixture.

Launched by a group of enthusiastic volunteers, the club began running sessions at the beginning of the summer holidays, with the aim to provide young girls in and around the Kingswood area of Bristol an opportunity to play netball outside of school. The volunteers have worked hard over the summer to secure a venue and a coach, and put together a committee so that they could take the leap to enter an U12 team into the local Avon Junior League.

After a busy summer of getting prepared, the young team took part in the Avon junior seeding tournament on Sunday 1st October. This was the first time many of the players had ever played 7 a side netball and despite their inexperience they were able to win some of their games and really enjoyed the experience.

Matches for Avon’s Junior league kicked off on Sunday 8th October and the one of the very first matches of the U12 league saw Tiger Saints take on Fry ‘B’. All of the hard work from both the players and volunteers certainly paid off and the Tiger Saints came away with a strong win 16-2.

A great start for the newly formed club!

Frome Netball Club Annual Charity Tournament in Memory of John Read

On Sunday the 17th of September Frome Netball Club held their annual charity tournament in honour of one of our member’s late father, Mr John Read. This is the 3rd year we have been running this tournament raising money for various charities; this year the chosen Charity was Dorothy House.

The tournament was held at Oakfield Academy and was well attended by 8 teams and their friends and family, including teams from Oakfield Academy, Selwood Academy and Frome Fire Brigade.

All teams really embraced the fun element with several wearing fancy dress and face paint. They gave it their all but the team who came out on top for the 2nd year running was The Almighty Cox’s.

The BBQ and raffle were also very well supported and on the day we managed to raise a fantastic £662.00! The money will be split between Dorothy House and Frome Netball Club.

Frome Netball Club would like to thank everyone that took part on the day and helped run the tournament, without their support it would not have been such a success!!  Also we would like to thank the following businesses and companies for their generous donations to the raffle:

Centre Parcs, Cordero Lounge, KP Garage, Boho, Bonbon, Sam’s Kitchen, Bramble and Wild Florist, Treatments by Tori, Zucci, Sean Smith Pet portraits and wildlife art and Costa coffee.  Their donations were greatly appreciated and helped us raise a lot of money for a wonderful cause!

Please see below a picture of the winning team The Almighty Cox’s and their medals!

Promotion like no other!

A recently formed Devon based netball club entered a local annual carnival, Bradworthy Carnival. They decided on a theme of pulp fiction meets netball and even had their own dance routine and rather surprisingly, they came third!

They had lots of fun and had beach balls with their name on which we threw among the crowd!

As most of the club members live in a small rural area in North Devon, they took this as a chance to promote their newly formed club.

Bradworthy and Holsworthy Netball Club started at the beginning of this year with a Back to Netball programme.  Ten months on they have 18 affiliated members and lots of fun (and dancing) along the way!
