#wedNEWSday – Walking Netball Festival deemed a huge success

Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles. Make sure you check out our website each week to keep up to date and if you have a great story let us know using the details below!

Last Sunday saw the first Tri-counties Walking Netball Festival in the region.  The event took place at Bentham Country Club in Gloucestershire and 16 teams from counties in the north of the region entered.  Each team entered a squad of up to 10 ladies and played six games throughout the Festival.  The standard of play was incredibly high and even those non-competitive teams began to enquire after the score after their games!  Despite a very warm day, the teams really enjoyed themselves and were very generous with regards to the raffle in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The overall winners of the day were Gloucestershire based Bentham WN who were undefeated throughout the Festival.

We’d like to thank the umpires again for their support on the day, as ever without them the event would have not been possible.

#wedNEWSday NSW’s Regional U12 tournament

Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles. Make sure you check out our website each week to keep up to date and if you have a great story let us know using the details below!

Netball South West hosted a Regional U12 Tournament at Paignton Academy at the end of last month.  15 teams from five counties in the region played in some well contested games.

The Semi Finals saw Avon Team Bath (10) play Cornwall’s Penzance (6) then South Devon’s Teignbridge Titans Alpha (24) took on East Devon’s Carol Anne (4).  Team Bath and Teignbridge Titans Alpha saw their way to the finals with a win for TTNC 12 vs. 4.  Special thanks to local Dart Netball Club who supplied superb Young Leaders who ran the event and a tuck shop to cater for all the parent supporters.  And of course all the coaches, umpires and parents as without these guys we wouldn’t be playing netball.

#wedNEWSday – Olveston Netball Club – Double Promotion!!!

Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles. Make sure you check out our website each week to keep up to date and if you have a great story let us know using the details below!

Olveston Netball Club (ONC) was originally formed in June 2010. It started as a village “Back to Netball” Club for the locals, the majority of whom had not played for many years (some since school).  The idea was just to get together each week to have fun and get fit, whilst enjoying a good team sport – it turned out to be a huge success with a good turn out every week.  Everyone quickly improved, and after playing many friendlies and a number of tournaments, in September 2011 it was decided to put forward a team to join the Avon Netball League. The first season was so enjoyable that ONC entered a second team to the league in September 2012.

Since 2012 ONC have been going from strength to strength and this weekend we celebrated our 1st and 2nd teams both becoming champions of their divisions and double club promotion!!!!

Our amazing coach Abbi Cosh and our incredible captains Nikki Tregenza and Vikki Layton have led us to this amazing double club promotion. Everyone has worked their socks off and being such brill team players and as a club we couldn’t be happier!!

#wedNEWSday – Nail-biting U14 Regional Play Offs

After an exciting netball season TTNC finished winners of the Netball South West Under 14 division 1 league.

They joined runners up Poole A, third place West Exe and fourth placed Bath Cougars in the Regional play offs at Paignton on Sunday 22nd April.

The games were so competitive and there was some brilliant netball on display.  It was West Exe who won the day, beating Poole 18-15, TTNC 23-20 and Cougars 24-19. The last game was Poole and TTNC who were drawn on points.  This proved to be the most exciting match of the day with Poole driving ahead in the first quarter but TTNC fighting back all the way closing to 21-21 as the whistle for time blew.  So a goal average decided the second team to go through to National Finals and it was TTNC who took it by the narrowest of margins.

What a brilliant day of netball and good luck to both West Exe and TTNC who will represent NSW at National Finals in Northumbria University on 26th/27th May.
