“Hey there! My name is Shaunagh and I am one of the Performance Pathway Coaches in the South West and lead the Regional Performance Academy programme. I work 2.5days a week and my role is to create a training environment to generate athletes of the best quality to progress through the pathway and raise the standard of netball being played in the South West, through ensuring the Regional programme aligns with the National Academy programme. I moved to the South West to study and play at the University of Bath in 2012. Though playing is still a focus of mine, being a part of the pathway since the age of 14 myself representing England at all levels, my passion for coaching was born through some time on the side line, learning from the countries best coaches and players. I have loved seeing my players excel over the past 18 months and it’s my mission for the standard of age group netball in the South West to flourish over coming years. Though rarely away from a court, when I am, I find great joy in travelling and anything that tastes like adventure!”

The Regional Performance Academy is a new layer to the pathway from July 2013 and aligns closely to the National Academy Programme. This new component of the Performance Pathway will ensure the most promising U19s can access high quality training programmes in their region. The Performance Academy is held at the University of Bath and operates for 48 weeks of the year and between 6-10 hours a week.

Players who attend the Academy are currently in the National Academy or demonstrate the potential to progress towards National level programmes and competitions. The Academy is linked closely to Team Bath to ensure players can access England Netball Performance competitions. Athletes should also be competing in appropriate club (regional and/or national leagues) and college or university competitions. Athletes may also be selected to play in the Netball Performance League.
