This summer has seen a fantastic amount of netball nationally, this has also been reflected in the Biggest Summer of Netball that took place after the Netball World Cup.

England Netball created the Biggest Summer of Netball as the Vitality Netball World Cup and summer netball has aligned (just like an eclipse), after the 2018 Commonwealth Gold Medal win, over 130,700 took the court. This time we wanted to ensure that all doors to netball were open and that the netball family worked together to deliver netball. Since the Netball World cup in July we wanted to give thousands the opportunity to try the sport and across the region we have seen lots of activity taking place.

Up and down the region, clubs have been opening their doors to get more people to play netball. Following the final, the Biggest Summer of Netball Open Week was launched, which saw numerous activities taking place.

In Cornwall, a Netball Now session was held in Falmouth by our Netball Development Officer Fern on the Big Netball Open Day. The session was free to attend and 47 people turned up (5 of which were ‘new to netball’). In Devon, West Devon County Netball Association put on 3 Netball Sessions in Plymouth which ended with a World Cup inspired tournament. Over 70 people attended the free netball session which saw ladies putting in 100% effort and smiling all round.

In Somerset, lots of clubs opened their doors on the 22nd July around the county and even throughout the week following to enable more people to take to court and find their love after being inspired by the Vitality Roses. The Netball Now sessions that were taking place in Dorset have now come to close after starting since the world cup with a lovely bunch of ladies enjoying the sessions.

In Avon lots of walking netball sessions opened their door to all to try the game at a slower pace and saw a good turnout of numbers and even back to netball and walking netball sessions in Wiltshire had good support. While different Netball clubs in Gloucestershire were opening their doors on the Biggest Summer of Netball open day and got more people taking to court.
