Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our WedNEWSday articles.
Gloucestershire based Sue Wainwright is an integral part of the Gloucestershire netball scene and even on her 70th birthday last month, she spent it on the road with her club.
Hucclecote Netball Club’s (HNC) premier one side had a game away in Leeds and those who know Sue won’t be surprised to hear that she chose to spend her special day with them, as opposed to having a restful day at home.
Sue is one of the former founder members of HNC, the largest club in Gloucestershire. She has been Chair for a number of years, with many players in her reign going onto represent England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Super League teams. One of these young talented players was Carly Taylor who unfortunately had her netball career cut short through a tragic accident leaving her paralysed.
In typical Sue fashion, she decided to do a netball fundraiser for Carly Taylor’s Trust in lieu of 70th presents and, as ever, the netball family raised an incredible £1,370 for Carly!
Club aside, Sue is a dedicated volunteer at county level too. She is the Junior Working Group Lead for Gloucestershire County Netball Association, and the Head County Selector for Player Development Programme (PDP). Sue is an incredible human being who has dedicated her life to netball, we are all so lucky to have her and wish her a very happy (belated) birthday.
