Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles.
Twelve teams competed on Sunday 3rd September to be crowned the winners of the first Bristol based mixed netball festival run by England Netball. We had glorious sunshine the whole day which made for a great atmosphere and perfect conditions to be playing wonderful netball.
All teams competed in 3 rounds prior to lunch where teams broke out for a picnic with a chance to relax on the grass. There was a big cheer from the crowd when a local ice cream van arrived to keep people feeling cool in the heat. Over the break, there were a couple of chances to individuals to compete in mini competitions, including a shooting challenge and a crazy catch passing challenge! Through The Trainer Exchange, players were also able to pick up a new set of trainers if they needed.
After another 2 rounds in the afternoon it came down to the final match of Hustlers V Stokethorn with Hustlers taking the win after a well fought match. Lots of teams stayed to cheer of the final two teams and for our awards ceremony at the end where prizes were given for 1st and 2nd place along with the two individuals on the mini competitions.
A big thank you to the umpires, Lisa, Tasha, Amelia and Daisy for doing a smashing job on the day, making sure that match play was not only safe but guiding those who were newer to the sport on the rules ensuring everyone had fun.
Another big thank you goes to our local ASDA Community Champion, Caroline, who donated a hamper for the winning team.
The Avon Mixed Netball Festival will return in 2024!
