Chudleigh Cannons Netball Club have grown into a friendly and inclusive club since they first started out under the back to netball initiative in Torbay in 2013. The club has a wide network of netball family supporting each other in general life as well as on match day! It’s amazing what netball can do for people!
So much so, that recently one of our players, Georgie Knight, got married and in true netball style our wedding gift to her and her husband was a netball, with their names and wedding date on. This just shows what a tight knit community Chudleigh Cannons are.
They met England Rose, Eboni Beckford-Chambers, at an event organised by the Teignmouth Thunderbirds. She was amazing and took them for an hour and a half session where they learnt a lot and are excited to pass on to the rest of the team! ‘It was lovely to get to chat with her after the session and we realised that whatever level of netball you play, you still have that wonderful netball family and break from real life much needed in today’s hectic world’.
They’re also helping one of the girls, Natalie Marsh, to run a charity tournament on 7th October, 10am-3pm in Paignton to raise money for the NICU at Plymouth and Special Care Baby Unit in Torbay. These are charities close to our hearts because Natalie’s son was born prematurely and has ongoing lung problems. The tournament is for mixed ability and gender with the hope of raising the profile of netball in the area as well as raise some money.
