Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles.
At the end of January, Walking Netball and Back to Netball teams from Devon, Cornwall and Somerset met at Hele’s School in Plymouth for the first Walking Netball and Back to Netball festival in Devon.
The Walking Netball competition saw 8 teams competing in 2 groups of 4. After the group rounds, BBs were in the lead in 1st place and Mayflowers were 2nd in group 1 and in group 2, Yeovil were 1st and Saltash in 2nd place. This meant that the two semi-finals games were between BBs v Saltash & Mayflowers v Yeovil.
Both Yoevil and Slatash from group 2 won their respective semi-final games with the final a replay of the previous group game with the outcome almost identical, Yeovil winning by 8 goals to 2 (the group result was 8-3) . BBs and Mayflowers played off for 3rd and 4th place with BBs taking 3rd place in a close contest by 7 goals to 6!
The Back to Netball competition was formed of 6 teams playing a round robin tournament where all teams played each other once. There was a variety of experience within the tournament ranging from the Wonford Warriors who had only just completed 10 weeks of back to netball to Montys Magpies, UTN Sound Financial and Saltash Clovers who have all started league netball recently. It was a reverse of the Walking Netball results with Saltash Clovers coming out on top with Yeovil in 2nd place.
Well done to all who took part & it was a great day of netball with lots of laughs and fun being had across the generations with players aged from 20 to 70+!
