Haytor Hearts finalist in Teignbridge Sports Personality Awards 2016
Haytor Hearts Netball Club have been announced as one of three shortlisted finalists in the prestigious Teignbridge Sports Personality Awards 2016, for the ‘Club of the Year’ category.
The Award, sponsored by Bayside Graphics, is in recognition of a club who has achieved success within their sport from September 2015 to September 2016. Finalists have been selected based upon their success in both performance and/or community sport development.
Haytor Hearts is in the running for the Award along side Newton Abbot Somersaults Gymnastics Club and Teignmouth Beach Lifesaving Club. An Awards evening will take place at the Langstone Cliff Hotel on Friday 2nd December, where category winners will be announced.
Over the past year the Haytor Hearts has welcomed over 40 people from the area back to netball. They came 4th in their pool at their first Regional Back to Netball Tournament in January 2016, and were Runners-Up in the first Local Back to Netball Summer League 2016 playing teams across Teignbridge and Torbay. As well as fundraising for the newly resurfaced courts, the club has also raised over £1000 for Cancer Research UK this year by taking part as a team in the charity’s Race for Life 5k Mud Run in July.
Haytor Hearts Netball Club was set up in August 2015 by two local ladies Carla Faulkner and Georgie Hart, at a rural court in Ilsington, on Dartmoor.
“Many of our players are returners to sport, and our club has provided them with the local means to take part. We have had fantastic feedback from the local community, who are very supportive of our club and the positive impact it is having on the community,” said Carla Faulkner.
Haytor Hearts train at the Ilsington Playing Fields newly refurbished courts during term time on Tuesday evenings from 6:45pm. £3 for club members, £4.50 for non-club members. Sessions are run by local coach and fitness trainer, Kate Bairstow. The first Tuesday of the month is always a mixed session. If you are interested in finding out more about the club, contact Carla Faulkner on 07915390250, or pop along to a Tuesday evening session.
