Swindon Vixens NC successful in obtaining Core Inclusive Club support
Netball South West (NSW) are delighted to announce that Wiltshire-based Swindon Vixens Netball Club are one of only nine clubs nationally invited to participate in the recently launched Core Inclusive Clubs Programme.
The new Core Inclusive Clubs grant programme was launched by England Netball and all clubs were invited to apply for resources and support to increase their inclusive footprint.
Core Inclusive Clubs will receive grants of up to £1000 and participate in a programme of planning and training that will allow the club to develop the confidence, knowledge, skills and partnerships that will allow the club to open their doors to the community, and provide environments that are welcoming and inclusive.
Swindon Vixens Netball Club is a club for people with learning disabilities, set up by the Swindon District Netball Association Netball Development Officer and the Project Coordinator from the Swindon Advocacy Movement.
Thanks to a successful bid for a NSW Community grant and match funding from Wiltshire Netball, together with discounted court costs from ‘Better’, Swindon Vixens NC have been able to keep their costs to a minimum and therefore accessible.
Around 11 million people or 20% of the population in the UK have a disability. England Netball is committed to the inclusion of people of all abilities to enjoy the benefits of netball that include positive mental health and wellbeing, social and confidence outcomes.
Disabled people participate far less than non-disabled people in physical activity and recreation activities. Only 18% of disabled people do at least 30 minutes of exercise per week. Despite this, more than 70% of disabled people want to participate in more sport and physical activity.
