Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles.
Back at the end of November, 15 umpires went out to Dubai and took part in the Dubai Netball Sevens Tournament. The tournament took place on Thursday 29th November to Saturday 1st December and comprised of three competitions: Gulf Women, Open Youth and International Open Women.

This year there were 23 teams and approximately 200 games with teams coming from all over the UAE, Sri Lanka and South Africa. During the tournament there were mentoring opportunities, with Janice Treasure kindly providing invaluable support to improve key skills and assist the umpires to progress to the next qualification.
Congratulations to Louise Cole and Emma Carstedt-Duke for being selected to umpire the International Open Women Final and to Vanessa Taylor-Byrne who brought home the Umpire of the Tournament trophy.

The following umpires were selected by Netball South West, to represent Team White at the event which is run alongside the Emirates Dubai Rugby Sevens:-

Everyone who took part had a wonderful time. There is nothing quite like umpiring in the sunshine! The tournament was great fun with a fantastic atmosphere and the netball was of a very good standard.
Special thanks to Gina Pearce who organised the umpire selection process and masterminds the logistical arrangements to get our umpires to Dubai and safely home again.
