Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles.
On Sunday 31st March the regional U14 Play-Offs were held at the University of Exeter. After the end of the season, the top 4 teams in Division 1 played in a round-robin format to determine the top 2 teams to represent the South West Region at the National Finals. There was loud support for all teams in what turned out to be a closely contested competition.
Poole started the day strongly against Exeter opening up a large lead in their first match, but Exeter pulled it back to finish within 4 goals, losing only 28-24 and gaining a point.
On the adjacent court, Lovell Titans and Wimborne who finished the regular season in 2nd and 3rd places played each in a very close match which eventually finished in a draw.
The next round of matches went to form with Poole too strong for Wimborne, and Lovell Titans holding off a determined Exeter side.
Exeter played Wimborne in the final round, while Poole faced Lovell Titans and because of the earlier draw, the top 2 places were still up for grabs.
Both matches were closely contested finishing on the same score, with Poole holding off Lovell Titans, and Wimborne beating Exeter, both by 2 goals.
The final results eventually reflected the league places with Poole and Lovell Titans finishing winners and runner-up respectively. They both go to the national finals in Worcester on 25th and 26th May. Good luck to both teams from all at Netball South West.
Well done to all teams, and thanks go to the umpire team led by Debbie Ashworth, Umpire Coordinator and to all the supporters and volunteers.
