Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our WedNEWSday articles.
Just over a week ago the Vitality Roses made history when they made their first Netball World Cup Final winning a Silver Medal.
Over the course of the World Cup the netball family of all ages in the South West got behind the team in various ways starting the week with a Walking Netball Festival which saw 120 women taking part. Followed quickly by Netball Youth Camps where the girls played their own World Cups, made posters, dress designs and good luck messages for the Roses.
As the competition progressed and the Vitality Roses continued in their winning ways with a spectacular final group match victory over Australia 55-56, interest and enthusiasm for netball across the South West ramped up. Several of our Netball Development Officers were invited on to local radio stations to discuss the World Cup and netball in the SW.

Our very own Netball South West Chair, Karen Jones, made the trip to South Africa to cheer the Vitality Roses on in person and was very lucky to meet some of them!

It was fantastic to see so many clubs and leagues supporting the semi-finals and celebrating Englands 46-40 win over New Zealand to book their place in a history making Grand Final. With more organising watch parties and celebrations for the final itself.
Frankie Vaughan & Annabel Hipwell showed their support for our Roses by co-hosting a NWC watch party for their club mates at Wellington Netball Club. Honiton Netball League hosted a watch party for the final.
There has been a clear impact of the Netball World Cup across the SW with increased enquiries for clubs and programmes like Back to Netball and Walking Netball. In Somerset they welcomed 23 New to Netball participants in programmes across the county in the past 2 weeks!
