Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles.
On the 8th March, we celebrated international women’s day! To celebrate this, Jenny Kelly, Devon Netball Development Officer, organised and hosted a Walking Netball and Back to Netball Festival at Paignton Academy.
There were 5 back to netball teams that had to great games being played and enjoyed by all. The games took place in 1 round with 8 minutes each way. Wonford Warriors, Riverside Revels, Lanivet Pandas, Net Top Models & ANVC Bounce back. There were a few close games which saw fantastic netball play. Net Top Models were the winners, winning all their games with Riverside Revels coming close runners up.
In the Walking Netball group there were 4 teams who played in two rounds. The first round was about the ‘competition’! It was great to see the competition among the teams and some close games like in the back to netball in the 16 minutes. The 4 teams, coming from Devon & Cornwall were Acorns, Mayflowers, Allsorts & Lanivet Strollers. The winners of the competitive tournament were the unbeaten Allsorts.
We had a second round of the walking netball, which was call the versatility round. This was where each player chose their position at random playing by 5 minutes each way, as we know some people get stuck to a position. This was for a bit of fun and all the players seemed to enjoy it. The winners of this round were the Allsorts again but the games were certainly closer this time round.
A great thank you to Jenny for organising a fun and netball filled day and to Laura, South West Regional Coordinator, who manned the results table, did the guess the number of goals competition and for social media. As a result of the guess the goal competition we managed to raise £41 for Cancer Research UK.
