Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles.

A huge welcome to our newest Women’s Institute (WI) Walking Netball (WN) group from Studland, Dorset. And it is a double celebration as they also have just celebrated their Centenary as a WI. The very first WI meeting in the UK took place in 1915 with Studland starting up not longer after that.

It may have taken 100 years for netball to come to Studland WI but now that it has arrived, it is proving very popular. The first 3 sessions have seen 20 ladies turn up each time with over 30 on the register. Chrissie and Aggie have been the driving force behind the sessions and they have managed to work with Sarah Clark (Dorset Netball Development Officer) to set up the WN group and get themselves trained as WN hosts in record time! There is plenty of ‘Wiggle and Giggle’ in this group and I think some of the ladies may also be ‘In it to win it’! The ladies are looking forward to entering teams into the WN festival on 13th February 2022 in Yeovil, Somerset (more details soon).
