Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles.
Over the last couple of weeks we have seen new additions to the Team White family around the region.
Fran has become the latest Dorset umpire to gain her B Award qualification. She said: ‘After completing the B award course with Tutor Karen Jones I headed tentatively out into the world of NSW regional netball, starting with my local North Dorset Regional U16 team. Assisted by local A and B award umpires, I realised that my next progression would be to be assessed to umpire Regional 1 U14/16. This meant travelling to Paignton where I met the wonderful Debbie Ashworth, A award assessor, tutor, mentor and all around superwoman. With her mentoring support (no matter when texts were exchanged) she helped me gain the confidence to start umpiring Senior Regional 3 progressing on to Regional 2. I sat the written A/B assessment in May 2019 and took my Practical Pre assessment in November 2019. After superb feedback and more Regional 3 and 2 umpiring practice, my B Practical assessment was last weekend and I passed! The journey continues….’
Further north of the region in Gloucestershire, Amber Meredith-Wilks has passed her C award and is hoping to be identified as a talented umpire in the near future. Her mum said ‘She has just started taking up a place with Severn Stars Wycliffe Nova programme as a developing umpire and going forward receiving mentoring by Barbara Warburton. Hopefully this will mean that she continues going from strength to strength. So far, I know that she has been invited to umpire at the Supernova tournament in May, which will be a great experience. At the All Nations Amber was lucky enough to meet and chat with Kate Stephenson and Gary Burgess which she was extremely happy about. I can’t wait to see how far she can go.’
Congratulations to both Fran and Amber as they continue through their umpiring journey, we can’t wait see you progress. To all budding umpires out there, keep up the great work in joining the Team White family.
