Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles.

The event took place at Sir David English Sports Centre, Bournemouth with teams competing in 3 different categories, U14s, U16s and U19s, throughout the day in an attempt to be one of the top two teams to make it through to the National Finals. After some fierce competition and closely contested matches the final results of the day are as follows:

Well done to all the schools that took part and good luck to the winners and runners up who will be heading to the National Finals. A special shout out to Penair School, Cornwall who were awarded the ‘Spirit of the Game’ award. This award is awarded to the team that demonstrated, throughout the day, a commitment to the spirit of the game of Netball and in doing so met Netball South West’s standards of good sportsmanship.

Thank you to the umpires who officiated the games and who were supported by a team of mentors. ’Umpire of the Tournament’ was awarded to Emily Smith (Cornwall) and Amy Schofield (Somerset) was awarded ‘Most Improved Umpire of the Tournament’.

A big thanks also to all the Netball South West volunteers for all their hard work and determination in organising the tournament. They were assisted on the day by a team of Young Leaders from The Blandford School who acted as timekeepers and court runners, plus a team of court managers and score recorders.
