Posted May 17, 2023 by Poppy O'Reilly

Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our WedNEWSday articles.

Sunday 30th April saw over 30 children from across Somerset attend a Primary School Netball Festival at Strode College, Somerset.

The children participated in a variety of netball skills led by coaches from Somerset clubs along with time playing the game!! ย

๐Ÿ’š Catching - fingers in W position behind the ball

๐Ÿ’š Chest passes - elbows in, fingertips up

๐Ÿ’š Shoulder passes - slightly sideways stances, if players are struggling encourage them to try 2 handed throw

๐Ÿ’š Footwork - one/two landing and sticky feet

๐Ÿ’š Shooting -balance, eyes, elbows and swish

๐Ÿ’šย Defending - on toes and head up

Somerset Junior Lead Hollie Wright said โ€œthis is the second season we have run this event and I am so happy to see so many kids across Somerset participating in a sport they love. Our hope is that these players go on to join a local club netball, display their newly found and developed skills and continue on their netball journey. A huge thank you to Jan Lawes and Johanna Templeman for leading the event in my absence and to all our volunteer coaches who took time to work together to make this event such a success.โ€

Somerset County Netball Association are planning to continue this as an annual event giving children across the county additional opportunities to develop their skills and love for the sport. ย
