Everyone knows what it is like to feel stressed and being under pressure is a normal part of life. But becoming overwhelmed by stress can lead to mental health problems or make existing problems worse.
Wednesday 2nd October is Stress Awareness Day and Netball South West wanted to take some time away from the court to highlight the ways that stress can affect people, and what you can do to manage your stress before it becomes a problem. Rethink have produced a great factsheet full of stress busting tips.
Exercise is the miracle cure we've always had, but for too long we've neglected to take our recommended dose. Nationwide, our mental and physical health is now suffering as a consequence. This is no snake oil. Whatever your age, there's strong scientific evidence that being physically active can help you lead a healthier and happier life. People who exercise regularly have a lower risk of developing many long-term (chronic) conditions, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, and some cancers. Research shows that physical activity can also boost self-esteem, mood, sleep quality and energy, as well as reducing your risk of stress. So, as we say at England Netball, don’t delay – get on court today! 😊
