Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles.
On Tuesday 29th August at Strode College, Street, Somerset, we hosted the first U11 Netball Youth Camp (NYC) in Somerset since pre pandemic, and it was a cracker!
15 girls aged 8-11 years took to the court to develop existing skills and learn new ones. We started off by developing the participants team building skills through a variety of competitive and non-competitive games, which included the use of a parachute and netball fitness before moving onto our specific skills session. This session included ‘how to develop the perfect shooting technique’ and ‘getting free from a defender’ all valuable skills when it comes to playing a match.
After some super creative netball dress designing the girls took all their new skills to court where there was lots of opportunity for match play!
We were so impressed with their passion and level of netball knowledge, many of whom had been inspired by the Vitality Roses recent success at the Netball World Cup.
We will be hosting another NYC at Strode this coming October half term so please look out for more information on the England Netball session finder which can be found here, or for more information on clubs and where to play in Somerset please contact Jo Templeman, our Somerset Netball Development Officer, at: Johanna.firstname.lastname@example.org.
