Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles.
As Volunteer Week draws to a close, we are spotlighting one of our longest serving volunteers in East Devon.
Jan Howard has chaired East Devon County Netball Association since 1995, having held numerous positions on the County Committee since starting as a volunteer as Fixtures Secretary in 1981. Although most people will know her from Exeter and District Netball League where she still umpires.
Jan’s contribution and commitment to netball in East Devon has been outstanding, she has a wealth of knowledge across the board, including coaching and umpiring. A wonderful leader who always brings the best out of her committee members with her fair and balanced approach.
Jan is a role model for anyone wanting to be involved in a volunteering capacity within netball. Even though she has been involved for many years she embraces the way netball is evolving and has always adapted to meet these changes and updates. Her constant support and encouragement has been invaluable to the committee especially when learning new systems and procedures.
With so much experience Jan is now looking to support the next generation of volunteers. Having taken the decision to step down as county chair she is also keen to support her successor and will be on hand to work with them and offer guidance and support where needed.
Jan is part of the fabric of netball in East Devon, we are glad that whilst she may be stepping back from some roles she will still be around a netball court in Exeter from time to time either umpiring or at Walking Netball.
East Devon County Netball Association are keen to hear from anyone who would be interested in in the role of County Chair. Contact Secretary Sue Whiffin firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
