Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles.
On a cold, overcast Sunday 5th March, The Netball Dome at Dorcan, Swindon welcomed 15 teams to take part in our regional Walking Netball Festival. Over 130 women took the courts where some fantastic walking netball was being played. It was great to see teams from around the South West coming together, some for the very first time. We even had a team travel from Plymouth who came up the night before to make the most out of a netball weekend away!
On the day we saw a mixture of some of our ‘seasoned’ Walking Netball teams and those for whom it was their very first taste of a festival take part, but across both courts we saw all teams playing in the true spirit of the game.
We had two categories with the Keynsham Roses from Avon being our ‘Just for Fun’ champions and Sole Sisters would travelled up from Devon worthy runners up.
Swindon Steamers (Wiltshire) were our ‘In it to Win It’ champions with Plymouth Warriors (Devon) worthy runners up.
A big thank you to all the teams who took part and tolerated the cold with a smile on their face and a warm tea and some cake.
Thank you to our umpires who were kept very busy with all the games on the day and did an amazing job of ensuring everyone was safe on court and could enjoy the day, we couldn’t have done it without you.
We are looking forward to planning another festival soon!
