Each week we bring you a good news story from across the South West as part of our wedNEWSday articles.
As we continue to face difficult challenges in our daily lives, it is more important than ever to stop and take a moment to look after our mental wellbeing. This week saw ‘World Mental Health Day’ and at England Netball we recognise the importance of promoting wellbeing.
Taking part in sport can offer so much to boost general health and wellbeing, no matter what your age or experience. It can help you connect with people, keep active both in body and mind and offer support and a sense of community.
England Netball work hard to offer a netball experience to suit all, no matter what stage of their netball journey.
Walking Netball is supportive, community-focused and a good old laugh. It is a slower version of the game we all love; it is netball, but at a walking pace. There are a few rule adaptions which help take the impact out of the activity but fundamentally it is “Walking Netball” – does what it says on the tin!
Women across the country have started playing Walking Netball for the fun, laughter and camaraderie the social session brings, as much as the health benefits on offer!
England Netball, in partnership with Netball South West, have provided Walking Netball teams across the region an opportunity to compete at Tri-county Walking Netball Festivals, the first of which was held in Yeovil, Somerset on Sunday 2nd October.
The festival saw 11 teams from all over the region take to the court for a fun tournament, lots of socialising and of course tea and cake!!
The event was spread across two courts and each group had several fixtures, so lots of opportunities for everyone to take to court and have a go. Experienced umpires were provided to help guide and support teams of varying experience.
A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone who participated and supported the day.
